I've used watercolor since 2006. I began using birds as subject matter at the same time. When I began working with birds and watercolor at that time I relied on photos that I'd taken for reference material. But over time I've spent more and more time in the field sketching. So most of the work since 2009 or so is much more informed by field work even when I still use some of my photos for reference. These are just my smaller, quicker watercolors.
